Film won't be shown at IIFA in Colombo and I will not attend the ceremony,' says Mani Ratnam
DISPELLING all speculation that Raavan would premiere at the India International Film Academy 2010, to be held in Colombo, filmmaker Mani Ratnam said post production work on the film was still pending, and neither he nor his film would be part of the controversial film festival."I will not be attending IIFA 2010, because post production work for my Raavan is going on," said Ratnam in the city on Monday, adding that the film will also not premiere at the festival.
When questioned about the participa tion of his Raavan lead stars, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan at IIFA, he said he could not comment on that.
Ratnam's film Raavan (or Raavana in Tamil, with Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Prithviraj) features Abhishek, Aishwarya and Vikram in the lead roles, and is slated for a June release.
It was originally speculated that the film would premiere at IIFA, which is to be held between June 3-5 in Colombo.
It may be recalled that Yuva, Rat nam's earlier film with Abhishek pre miered at IIFA 2004 in Singapore.
Ratnam's partici pation in IIFA could have spelled trouble for him in Tamil Nadu, as the Tamil film industry and political parties have vehemently op posed the festival, for the choice of its venue -Sri Lanka.
They are boycot ting the festival to register their pro test against the island country for its brutalities against Lankan Tamils. In fact, leading Tamil actors are believed to have turned down the of fer to participate in the festival, de spite formal invitations being sent to them. Mani Ratnam's participation in IIFA could have spelled trouble for him in Tamil Nadu, as the state's film industry and political parties have opposed the festival, as it is being hosted in Sri Lanka.
