Govt looks at direct role for army against Naxals .

FIGHTING BACK: Villagers at a rally in Jharkhand vowing to resist Maoists.

Antony Sounds Out Chiefs, CCS Set To Decide On Thursday.

New Delhi: The government is considering expanding the role of the armed forces in the ongoing anti-Naxal operations, with a hard look even being taken at whether they should be “directly deployed’’ in the fight against the Maoists.
While an enhancement of their present surveillance, logistical and training mandate is a certainty, the cabinet committee on security (CCS) meeting, likely on Thursday, will take the final call on whether to enlist the armed forces in a more direct combat role.
The decision will be influenced as much by political considerations as by security imperatives. Yet, the possibility of armed forces being asked to take on the Left-wing extremists is no longer being summarily dismissed like before.
Defence minister A K Antony on Tuesday sounded out the three Service chiefs on the sensitive issue, with the 90-minute meeting with Air Chief Marshal P V Naik, Admiral Nirmal Verma and General V K Singh discussing “all dimensions’’ of the security situation. Independent of whether the government decides to
push ahead with the idea or not, the very fact that direct engagement of armed forces is being looked as a serious option is significant.
It marks a critical shift on the part of the government, which had so far shied away from deploying soldiers in the Naxal battle. But a big cause for concern is the increasingly savage and audacious Maoist attacks, which have inflicted heavy casualties on paramilitary forces as well as non-combatants.
In May alone, as many as 172 civilians and 29 security personnel were killed by the Naxals, if the derailing of the passenger train in West Midnapore on May 28 is also taken into account.

Though the meeting chaired by Antony examined the “pros and cons of different options’’, it’s for the CCS to decide on the exact mandate. “But one thing is certain. Even if the armed forces are deployed in a more direct role, it will be a limited mandate for a limited period,’’ a source said.
One possible option could be to divert a few of the 63 battalions of Rashtriya Rifles, the army’s specialised counter-insurgency force operating in Jammu and Kashmir, “for selective missions’’ in states worst affected by Maoist depredations, sources said.

Jharkhand may be Maoist flashpoint
President’s rule in Jharkhand might help home minister P Chidambaram launch an all-out offensive against the Maoists in the state, something he was unable to do as Shibu Soren dragged his feet on the issue. The Naxals also may turn up the heat in the state to protest the UPA sanctioning an operation against them by paramilitary forces.
Singh speaks tough on dealing with Maoists
New Delhi: Successive governments have been averse to enlisting the army in the fight against Maoists because of the concern that it might lead to a perception about the Indian State not being in control of vast swathes in its heartland. There is also the issue of suitability of the armed forces, which are trained to kill with heavy force, operating against an adversary who blends into the civilian population and is adept at using them as shields.
The top military brass have their own reservations, extending from lack of familiarity with the terrain to the armed forces being already overstretched in counter-insurgency operations in J&K and the North-East, and along the unresolved borders with Pakistan and China.
But underlining the government’s resolve to take the battle to Maoists, PM Manmohan Singh said, “In dealing with the challenge of Naxalism, we’ll pursue a policy that seeks to address developmental concerns at the grassroots, while firmly enforcing the writ of the State.’’
But the dice could still fall either way in the cabinet committee meeting on security, with the home ministry keen to bolster the fight against the Maoists with “some more help’’ from the armed forces but the defence establishment remaining largely reluctant about getting sucked into “yet another internal security duty’’.

Siddharth –Dil Raju’s new flick with a new director

7:02 AM, Posted by Mahy Pallav, No Comment

‘Bommarillu’ is one of the remarkable films in both Siddharth and Dil Raju’s film career. The film won them both awards and rewards. Now the same combo is coming again after almost four years of gap with yet another interesting script narrated by Venu Sriram. Yes! Like ‘Bommarillu’ Bhaskar, Venu Sriram will also make his debut through this flick in Siddharth-Dil Raju combination. This film would kick off soon after the two ongoing films of Siddharth – one is K Prakash Rao’s socio-fantasy flick and the other is ‘Bava’.

It's Boring Yaar!!!--‘Golimaar’ Review--By Venkat Arikatla

Film: Golimaar
Rating: 2.5/5

Banner: Sri Sai Ganesh Productions
Cast: Gopichand, Priyamani, Kelly Dorjee, Nasser, Roja, Ali, Mukhtar Khan, MS Narayana, Shawar Ali, Jeeva etc
Music: Chakri
Cinematographer: Shyam K Naidu
Editor: Marthand K Venkatesh
Story, dialogues, screenplay, direction: Puri Jagannadh
Producer: Bellamkonda Suresh
Release date: 27/05/2010
Puri Jagannadh has arrived with yet another venture and this time, he has taken the line of encounter specialists.
Gangaram (Gopi) fulfills his childhood ambition of becoming a police officer and in no time, DIG Bharath (Nasser) promotes him to an encounter specialist. He tells Gangaram to wipe away the gangs of Khaleel (Kelly Dorjee) and Saleem (Shavar Khan). Gangaram begins his clean up task and in this process; he also gets to meet Pavitra (Priyamani). However, there is a twist which awaits him and what happens from there forms the rest of the story.
Gopichand has done his bit as required and he is only saving grace in the movie. He looks rather mild this time. But then, he has done a decent job.
Priyamani is not good and she looked with over dosed layers of make up that made her unattractive.
Kelly Dorjee has sharp looks but as usual, the characterization of the villain is not that strong. Being a powerful don, he ends up behaving like a small time ring leader in a slum.
Nasser was natural, Roja was disgusting, Ali was not required, Mukhtar Khan was just around, M S Narayana was average, Jeeva, Shawar Khan and others filled the screen space.
Here are a few vital points that the director should understand:
  • Comedy should be dosed well for this genre of films
  • Care should be taken at the placement of songs
  • How may times the story of Dayanayak will be recycled? People have watched Ab Tak Chappan and Sidhdham
  • Heroine should be glamorous and lovable but not irritable
Analysis
The film is said to have been inspired by the life of Daya Naik, the famous encounter specialist. However, one can see traces of top cops like Walter Devaram (Tamil nadu), Pradeep Sharma (Mumbai), Aftab Ahmed Khan etc. But then, this is a serious domain that deals with hardcore criminals and life threatening situations.
And Puri ended up treating it like a filmy affair. Movies like ‘Ab Tak Chappan’ always stand as benchmarks for such genre of movies. The intensity was missing here, dialogues were regular and were good at very few places, the script was not engaging. Above all, Puri is known for his master stroke and unfortunately, there is no flash of brilliance seen in the film that makes you think that yes, it is indeed a film by him. He tried to bring in some twists but they weren’t presented with required depth.
The technical values were okay and there is absolutely no comedy track. This is not to compare the film with ‘Pokiri’ but for a man who has given us a marvel like that, ‘Golimaar’ is definitely not a flick of his caliber.

Vipul Amrutlal Shah gets Akki and Ash together again...

WANT A RIDE? Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar.
What happens when three heavyweights Vipul Shah, Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan get together? They give you a retro cool film titled Action Replayy, that is high on style quotient and emotionally rewarding too.
The gorgeous Aishwarya puts it very simply when she says, “It is a fun-genre romantic film.’’ And her good-looking co-star, the handsome Akshay adds, “It’s a very special film for me for many reasons. This is my tribute to the 70s that was the greatest retro era. I was kicked with the idea because I’m entering the time in cinema where my father-in-law (Rajesh Khanna) was a superstar. It is my fifth film with Vipul and definitely another one to remember. Ash and I had a brief romantic interlude in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s Khakee, but Action Replayy is our first romantic comedy together. Believe me, I was blushing through the making and there’s a lot I
wish to tell my audience about. But Vipul wants me to keep things under wraps for the moment.’’ Without giving away too much, one can safely say that Action Replayy is all about rewinding your life. It is about Kishen and Mala — two bickering senior citizens who “rediscover romance’’ on their 33rd wedding anniversary, when their son gets them into rew mode. Vipul Shah, who had a blast making Action Replayy, says, “Akki and I have an impeccable box office record. W enjoyed su

They’re both goodlooking, super-talented and what’s more, they’re fashion icons as well. Akki has made an amazing screen pair with some of the existing girls but believe me, he and Ash are extra special,’’ adds Vipul.
